Winners of the National FFA Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE) were announced Thursday, Nov. 2, during the second session of the 96th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis. Atop that list, in first place, was Joe Schohr, a sophomore at Gridley High School who is concurrently pursuing his education at Butte College.
The National FFA Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE) is a highly competitive contest that recognizes exceptional FFA members for their ability to recite and interpret the National FFA Creed and respond to challenging questions. Schohr's remarkable ability to present the Creed from memory and thoughtful responses to inquiries set him apart as the ultimate champion.
"The FFA Creed talks about the morals and values of agriculturists, and I have been raised with those values my whole life," explained Schohr. "Being able to take those ideas and speak at the national level was a huge honor."
"I want to thank everyone who listened to me, gave me feedback, or asked me questions in preparation for the creed contest," he remarked. "I want to give special thanks to my advisors, Ms. Vaca and Ms. Albiani, as well as some of my biggest supporters and mentors, Mrs. Coughlin and Bella Albiani, and my parents and family."
Schohr's impressive achievement came as no surprise to his family and instructors, who have witnessed his dedication to his studies and commitment to FFA. Schohr began taking college-level courses at Butte College in 2020 while still in middle school. Currently, he is enrolled in the "Computer Applications in Agriculture" course at Butte College. He has also leveraged Butte's dual enrollment program by enrolling in two agriculture classes offered Through Butte College at the Gridley High campus. He plans to complete an associate degree from Butte College by the time he completes his high school education.
"In the next few years, I plan on continuing my involvement in the National FFA Organization," he reflected. "After high school, I hope to attend a four-year university and major in animal science. Eventually, I hope to obtain my master's degree and work in the field of ruminant genetics."
